Mike Flynn

Professor, University of Tampa

Trainer - Tampa Bay

Mike joins PCA-Tampa Bay from Tampa Preparatory School, where he worked since 2004, serving the last eight years as Athletic Director. In addition to leading an expansive athletic department that includes 75 coaches and annually fields 46 teams across 14 sports serving more than 500 student-athletes, Mike has been a very successful volleyball coach at the middle school, high school, college and club levels. His varsity teams at Tampa Prep reached the FHSAA Final Four on four separate occasions, winning the State Championship in 2004. And while his teams have been successful on-court, he is most proud of what his players have accomplished in their personal and professional lives since leaving Tampa Prep. Mike graduated from Florida Southern College with his Bachelor of Science (2001), Masters of Education (2008) and Doctor of Education (2017). His doctoral research was a quantitative study that examined the degree to which participating in Positive Coaching Alliance educational programming affected secondary school athletes' level of moral knowing.

Mike has been connected to PCA-Tampa Bay since the Chapter was originally established. Tampa Preparatory School was our second Community Partner (after Hillsborough County Public Schools) and PCA has been delivering educational programming for Tampa Prep coaches, student-athletes and parents dating back to August, 2014. Mike was a guest speaker at the first Tampa Bay Chapter Board meeting in July, 2014 and was one of the first people to raise his hand and volunteer to become a PCA Certified Trainer. Mike has now represented PCA-Tampa Bay on two occasions at PCA's Trainer Institute' in California.
