Marshall Haskins

District Athletic Director of Portland Public Schools

Local Board Member, Portland

Marshall is the District Athletic Director of Portland Public Schools. Prior to accepting his position with the district in 2013, Haskins was vice principal at Franklin High School.

He coached the Jefferson boys basketball teams (his alma mater, where he was a three-sport athlete) to OSAA state championships in 2000 and 2008.

Haskins stepped down as Jefferson’s boys basketball coach after winning the 2008 Class 5A title, beating Corvallis 55-52 at McArthur Court in Eugene. In 10 years leading the Democrats, Haskins created a special bond with the community that he didn’t fully appreciate until he left to become the vice principal at Wilson High School in Southwest Portland.

From 1988-2003, Haskins was the vice president of Self Enhancement, Inc., a nonprofit organization that creates programs for at-risk urban youth and develops curriculum to help provide a positive future for children.

After starring at Jefferson in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Haskins embarked on a successful college basketball career at Warner Pacific College in Southeast Portland from 1981-1985. Haskins holds the college’s career records for assists (881), assists per game (7.2) and steals (344). In February, Haskins was inducted in Warner Pacific’s “Knights Athletic Hall of Honor.”
