Jed Mettee

Chief Operating Officer, San Jose Earthquakes

National Leadership Council

Jed Mettee started with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2001 as the Director of Media Relations. He became the Vice President of Marketing and Communications in 2011, overseeing marketing, branding, broadcasting, public relations and community relations for the Quakes.

Under his direction, the Earthquakes media relations department was named the 2012 Major League Soccer PR department of the year. The club also underwent a rebrand in 2014 with the creation of a new logo and new brand values for the club.

During the construction of the club’s recently opened Avaya Stadium, Mr. Mettee was responsible for creating the marketing and public relations campaigns to build awareness for the stadium. The Earthquakes broke the Guinness World Record for the largest participatory groundbreaking ceremony with 6,256 people digging for two minutes. The construction process also saw full involvement from the community with a fan installing a seat and helping pour concrete. The inaugural match at Avaya Stadium was held on March 22 with the Earthquakes defeating the Chicago Fire 2-1.

In addition to his time at the Earthquakes, he also spent two years working in the athletic department at Santa Clara University.

Jed is a New Hampshire native and graduate of Bowdoin College.
